There are three main ways to use essential oils: Aromatically, topically, and ingesting. Each in which should be done safely, so I, for one, am SO GLAD that you are doing your research before embarking on an amazing toxin-free living journey using alternative medicine and more holistic approaches!
The most common way to use essential oils is through aromatherapy in which you get the benefits from having the scent in the air. Ways to do this are using a diffuser or by placing a few drops into your bathtub with Epsom salts. There are so many options when it comes to using essential oils. You can use one oil for its main benefit such as lavender to relieve stress and sleep, or peppermint for headaches and to gain energy and focus. You can also use blends which is my absolute favorite to diffuse!
Gain the benefits from essential oils with these 3 methods
The best tip for essential oil basics for beginners is to use them as aromatherapy. In our house, the diffuser is going every day, and I ALWAYS have them in the bath for myself fand the kids! This method is beneficial in helping to reduce inflammation, pain relief, arthritis, pregnancy pains, migraines, stress and anxiety, insomnia, and depression. Seriously, the list goes on and on, these are just the things that I’ve used my diffuser and bath for recently! If you use them in the bath, you get the oils topically too!

Use oils Topically
You can also apply the essential oils directly to your skin, my favorite is the bottom of your feet, back of your neck, or on the inside of your wrists. It’s my favorite way to use them…just the other day I applied some Eucalyptus to gnat bites on my legs and neck, itch gone, and in the morning, bug bite virtually is gone! It truly is MAGIC!
When you put oils on your skin, it is very important that you mix the oil with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. Amazon will be your best bet in finding carrier oils, not to mention you’ll get them in two days with prime.
Safety first, ALWAYS!
Using a carrier oil helps to dilute the oil and prevents skin irritation or burning. We keep mini mason jars in our house. Fill it up halfway with fractionated coconut oil and put about 10 drops of the oil you want in there, that way you have it ready to go at any given moment!
Another way to use oils topically – Make Body Products
Don’t forget about using essential oils for body or beauty products! I make foaming soap, facial scrub, bath bombs and lotion for the kids!

Ingest essential oils
The last way to use oils is by ingesting them. This is not for everyone, as some do not believe that this is safe. Done right, there are many benefits to ingesting oils.
